“Sometimes it’s difficult to understand what International House is because we do so many things. But if we are a doorway to the world for the people of Charlotte, we are also a doorway to Charlotte for the people of the world. It is as simple as that.”
-- Carmen Hilton, Doorways Member, Volunteer, Long-Time friend of International House
INTERNATIONAL BOOK CLUB
Members read novels by international authors with international settings and/or international themes.
The Club meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. for about two hours (there are no meetings in July, August and December).
Through facilitated discussion, we share a love of reading and learn about diverse cultures.
INT'L WOMEN'S CLUB
This members-only group includes over 100 women from more than 40 countries.
From September through April (except for December) they meet at the Midwood International & Cultural Center for a social hour at 10 a.m. and then a guest speaker presentation.
From May through August, members host potluck luncheons in their homes or enjoy visits to local places of interest.
Practice language skills and celebrate other cultures at one of our Language Conversation Hours offered in multiple languages. We welcome people who are fluent and those who are beginning to learn a language. The conversation sessions are primarily for adult learners over the age of 18. All are welcome and sessions are free.
YP@IH seeks to build a vibrant, global community in Charlotte through activities and events that engage the Charlotte community, build international understanding, and support the programs and services of International House.
Members organize and participate in social, educational, leadership, and fundraising activities that raise awareness about Charlotte’s role as a Global City and Immigrant Gateway.
